There comes a time of recognition in the life of every believer that the church is God’s creation, not an invention of man.  Along with this recognition comes the awareness that the Christian is called upon to identify with God’s church.  Church membership is a powerful statement to those within the church as well as to those in the community.  It says, “I know Jesus Christ, and have decided to identify with His people.”

THE NEED TO BELONG

We all have a need to “belong.”  When we receive Jesus Christ into our lives, God places us in His family where we truly belong.  That “family” is His church.  More than belonging to a civic club or some other organization, membership in the church means that we have a spiritual home we can call our own.  The other people in the church body are  our brothers and sisters.  These are the people who will be there to celebrate our victories and help us through our difficulties.  Membership also means that we commit ourselves to lifelong spiritual learning and service to others with our resources, time, skills, and gifts.

BECOMING A MEMBER OF CTWC

Your first step is the most important. Christianity is not about rules, but about your relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Therefore, your first step involves beginning a relationship with Jesus Christ by inviting Him into your life.  The Bible teaches us “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16).  This is called being saved, or born again.  If you haven’t taken this step but are willing to investigate it further, the pastoral staff invites you to join the Living On Course classes.

"LIVING ON COURSE" CLASSES

A series of four-week classes, entitled Living On Course, will assist those wishing to become members of Calvary Temple Worship Center.

BENEFITS OF CHURCH MEMBERSHIP

1.  It identifies me as a genuine believer
“Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household…” Ephesians 2:19
“So in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” Romans 12:5

2. It provides me with a spiritual family to experience the giving and receiving of love
“Jesus replied:  ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’  This is the first and greatest commandment.” Matthew 22: 37-38

3.
It gives me a place to discover and use my gifts in ministry
“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit.  There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.  There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men…The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body…Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” 1 Corinthians 12: 4-27

4.
It places me under the spiritual protection of godly leaders
“Obey your leaders and submit to their authority.  They keep watch over you as men who must give an account.  Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.” Hebrews 13:17

“Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers.  Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.  I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock.” Acts 20: 28-29

5. It gives me the accountability I need to assist my spiritual growth
“Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” Ephesians 5:21

6.
It increases my effectiveness.  My efforts are linked to those of others in the church.
“From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” Ephesians 4:16

7.
It allows me to experience the ebb & flow of God’s dealings with a group of people
All the believers were one in heart and mind.  No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had.  With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all.” Acts 4:32-33

8.
It positions me to be spiritually motivated by others
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” Hebrews 10:24
